Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing mechanical engineering and related technical expertise. The work will primarily serve heavy industrial clients at fuel, oil, natural gas, and/or power generation facilities. Other industries served include mining and manufacturing. Assignments may include completing system design related to fluid transfer, bulk material handling, and plant layout; preparing design/construction drawings and specifications; completing engineering calculations and analyses; selecting equipment and components; writing technical reports; preparing sketches for system arrangement; developing details of designs; and preparing cost estimates and bid packages. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
5+ years of related work experience
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office software, and computer simulation modeling
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
Demonstrated project organization and management skills
Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial workplace
Background/experience working on industrial construction projects
Client service aptitude and experience
Experience working directly with clients
Proven experience involving pumping/piping systems, gas compression systems, HVAC, dust collection, plumbing, slurry handling, and/or other relevant mechanical systems
Demonstrated project or task management skills
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
